Race ReportMay 25-26, Texas World SpeedwayThe SRF Report The combination of the heat, a stripe of oil through the line in T1 (old), and a very weird start couldn't stop some close racing throughout the pack on Saturday. A very early green flag started the race, which was marred by Jake Taylor's late session head-on with the wall in old turn 1 as he avoided a car spinning off the oil stripe. Jake was cut out of a severely damaged racecar and taken to the hospital with a concussion, cuts, and bruises. He is doing fine. The battle for first was close and was finally won by Johnny Meriggi. Donna Lakomski's race ended early with the loss of 5th gear. Sunday's race was even closer with nip-and-tuck battles throughout the field. Mike Davies bested Meriggi for first, Andrew Simpson held off Rick Bellew's late session charge, and Donna Lakomski, Ed Plummer, Ralph Mayfield, and Lee Romine pounded on each other for many laps finishing 10th through 14th. Also observed in the lead group was Mark Plummer putting pressure on Denny Stripling. Sunday's final results are not available as of this writing. |
